Beginning it's life high in the Bohemian Forest, the river Vltava makes it's way through the Czech Republic, the country's largest river. It is the river upon which the historic city of Prague is built, and is proclaimed by many to be one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe.
In the winter of 1874 the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana composed perhaps his most famous work: A symphonic poem entitled Vltava, depicting the course of the river, from it's humble beginnings to it's ravenous end. This work is performed regularly all around the world. Over the course of the work, one of the scenes depicted is a country wedding by the river: This piece has become a staple of the Vltava String Quartet's repertoire, taking the listener from Ireland to a farmer's wedding on the shores of this beautiful river.
